LITURGY OF THE WEEK
NEW YOUTH MINISTER Hunter Yentzen has accepted the position of Youth Minister on a part-time basis at Holy Savior. Hunter, with his wife Mary Catherine and baby daughter Anna Kate are members of Holy Savior. Hunter will coordinate and carry out programs for all parish youth including the CYO program. Hunter has been involved in Catholic campus ministry both at LSU and USM in Hattiesburg. Hunter and Mary Katherine have worked with Dr. Kristi Melancon in campus ministry to Catholic students at Mississippi College. We thank Hunter and Mary Catherine for sharing their gifts and time with our parish.
PARISH SCHOOL OF RELIGION parents are encouraged to send their children to participate in the Parish School of religion that has just started back. All children and high school students in the parish are expected to participate regularly to study their Catholic faith and prepare for receiving the Sacraments of the Church. The parish program does not end with confirmation; class for 11th and 12th grade (post-confirmation) is part of the program this year. A mandatory meeting of parents with the candidates of confirmation will be held Wednesday, September 10th from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the RE building.
RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS The R.C.I.A. inquiry stage will begin September 16th if we have enough candidates to make a class. Candidates interested in the RCIA process need to register by calling the Parish Office before Friday, September 12th so the parish can prepare and plan for the program.
HOLY SAVIOR’S ANNUAL CHICKEN BAR-B-QUE is Saturday, October 11, 2014. Allen Scott has again agreed to chair the event and we are grateful to Allen for his leadership and generosity. We encourage all parishioners and organizations to participate in this traditional parish event. This week parishioners will receive a letter from the pastor with 10 BBQ tickets ($8 each) to be bought or sold. We encourage all to do their part. Ticket money may be returned in the regular offertory collection. Please put in an envelope with your name and mark it BBQ.
GOLDEN OLDIES meet this Tuesday, September 9th in the Parish Center following the 11:30 a.m. Mass. Please bring your favorite dish to share. Judy Barham is asking everyone to bring a baby picture of themselves. Prizes for those who can identify the most photo’s correctly.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS will meet this Wednesday, September 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Center.
KC LADIES AUXILIARY will meet this Wednesday, September 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Center. All ladies in the parish are invited.
MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE NEWMAN CLUB Holy Savior parish is invited to tailgate with the Newman Club at the MC quad on September 13th at 3:00 p.m.
ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC SCHOOL is having their fall Open House on Friday, September 19th beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building. Come meet the principal and teachers and tour the facilities.
